Email can not be backed up directly from Office360
(it can from Outlook) but can be done by connecting an email client to
the Outlook IMAP server. For example, establish a
thunderbird IMAP connection and subscribe to the
required folders. Each folder is then stored, by default, in a mbox
file. (Maildir directories are also an option for
thunderbird.) For example, connecting to an outlook
IMAP server, the mbox files are located in something like
~/.thunderbird/cd1450gf.default-release/ImapMail/outlook.office365.com/. There
will be an INBOX file and a file for each subscribed folder,
as well as various meta data files. We can use mutt to
view the mbox files:
