18.16 Insert Line After Another Line

The sed command can insert a string into a file after a pattern is found using append (a). With -i the file is changed in-place. The example here finds the pattern specified, a line that only contains <HEAD>, and appends the following string.

sed -i '/^<HEAD>$/a This line added after the <HEAD>' myfile.html
